Legal work is steady and safe. It pays less than crime, nobody can take the money off you, and it does not end in prison. The path has four stages, and each one pays for the things the next one needs.
What to carry
| Item | Cost | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Phone | You start with one. A new one is $850 at the hardware store. | Contacts, banking and messages. |
| ID card and driver’s licence | $50 each | Police ask for them, and stage two needs the licence. |
| Food and water | $2 each | Your character gets hungry and thirsty. |
| A vehicle | Your own, from stage two onward | Stage two and later work needs one. |
Stage one: on foot
Needs nothing. These are contract jobs: you are paid for the work you finish, not for the time you spend.
| Job | Pay | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Postman | $2 per letter | The easiest first job. |
| Window cleaning | $5 per window | The payout depends on the building. |
| Garbage collector | $2 per bag, 100 bags to a truck | The one contract that pays more with a crew. Bring friends. |
| Lumberjack | $3 to $10 per 1% of the job, $4 to $12 per log, $60 to $120 per finished pallet | |
| Miner | About $1,000 a run | $10 for every 1% of the tunnel you clear. |
| Treasure hunter | $450 per treasure | |
| Hot dog vendor | $170 every 10 minutes, plus $8 to $15 per item sold | Paid by the clock. |
How to work a contract job
- Go to the job’s site.
- Start the job there. If friends are working with you, join up before you start.
- Take the work vehicle or tools the job gives you.
- Do the tasks. You are paid for the share you finish, so a half-finished run still pays half.
- Return to the site, hand back the vehicle and collect your pay.
Stage two: with a vehicle
Needs a car and a driver’s licence. Buy the cheapest reliable car first. A supercar in your first week is a rule problem, not a flex: your car should fit your character (§6.5).
| Job | Pay | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Taxi | $150 to $200 every 10 minutes, plus $125 per mile driven with a fare | |
| Bus driver | $180 every 10 minutes | Fixed routes. |
| Tow truck | $200 every 10 minutes | Recovery calls. |
| Trucker | $200 every 10 minutes | |
| Deliverer | $80 per package | Contract job. |
Stage three: skilled work
Needs savings, the right vehicle or gear, and for some jobs a second person.
| Job | Pay | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Oil rig | About $1,200 a run | A run takes about 20 minutes. The best-paying contract. |
| Gruppe Sechs armoured transport | $900 per completed transport | 10-minute wait between runs. You can be robbed on the way, so two people are safer than one. |
| Builder | About $800 a run | $8 for every 1% of the site’s tasks. |
| Electrician | $100, $150 or $200 per level | By difficulty: easy, medium, hard. |
| Mechanic | $190 to $300 every 10 minutes | Five grades. The shops are LS Customs, Benny’s and Beeker’s. |
| Vineyard picker | $190 every 10 minutes | |
| Journalist | $180 every 10 minutes |
Stage four: owning things
Needs a real bank balance, and an application for anything with a storefront.
| What | How it earns | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Your own business | Customers, with your own payroll and staff | Needs an approved application. A business that is inactive for 30 days returns to the city. |
| Vehicle dealer | $190 to $300 every 10 minutes, plus 10% of a cash sale or 5% of a financed sale | The luxury lot needs a real dealer to sell to a customer. |
| Real estate agent | $190 to $300 every 10 minutes, plus 20% of every rent payment your tenants make | Agents set house prices, not the city. |
| Property | Storage, a garage, and a home | Default rent is $1,000 a week. A house sells back at 80% of what you paid. |
| Qbit | Buying low and selling high | One coin, priced by the city. It opens at $1,000, moves between $500 and $5,000, and changes price every 10 minutes. |
Careers you apply for
| Career | Pay every 10 minutes | Where to read more |
|---|---|---|
| Police | $230 to $400 by rank | The Law Enforcement Guide |
| Fire & EMS | $220 to $380 by rank | The Medical (EMS) Guide |
| Judge | $400 | A single grade, by appointment. The Department of Justice recruits through the application form. |
| Law firm associate | $250 |
What to buy, in order
- Food and water. Cheap, and you feel it when you skip them.
- Your driver’s licence. It opens the whole second stage.
- A cheap, reliable car.
- A garage spot, so a bad night does not cost you the car.
- Gear for the stage-three job you enjoy, once you know you enjoy it.
- Property.
- A business. Apply first.
