- Take the call in dispatch and say so on the radio.
- Drive there with lights and sirens. Drive like the ambulance costs money, because it does (§6.1). Stay on the roads.
- Before you get out, look at the scene. If there is shooting, or people with weapons out, stop out of sight and tell dispatch you are staging.
- Go in when the shooting has stopped or police tell you the scene is safe.
- Find the patient who is closest to dying and start there (EMS-1.2).
- Treat the patient. Chapter 7 has the steps.
- Decide: discharge at the scene, or transport to the hospital. Chapter 8 has the steps.
- Tell dispatch you are clear.
EMS-6.1 Do not walk into a firefight.
Stage until the scene is safe. A medic who goes down helps nobody.
EMS-6.2 No revives in an active fight.
Do not revive anyone while the people who downed them are still fighting. A patient you revive is out of that fight. Tell them so before you revive them.
EMS-6.3 If you are attacked, leave.
Withdraw, tell dispatch, and report it in a ticket afterwards with your clip (§5.3, §8.2). Do not fight back and do not settle it in the scene.
