Transport a patient when the injury is serious, when the scene is not a safe place to finish treatment, or when the patient is in police custody.
- Put the patient on the stretcher.
- Load the stretcher into the ambulance.
- Tell dispatch you are transporting.
- Drive to the hospital with lights and sirens.
- Bring the patient inside and put them in a bed.
- Finish treatment and discharge them, or hand them to a Doctor.
A resident who walks into the hospital when no medic is free can check in at the front desk and be treated there.
EMS-8.1 The hospital is a green zone.
No crime, no weapons drawn and no hostilities at any hospital (§3.10). If someone breaks that, step away and report it.
EMS-8.2 The ambulance is not a getaway car.
Do not carry anyone away from police, or toward a fight, as a favour.
EMS-8.3 Patients in custody stay in custody.
Treat them first. An officer stays with them. You do not release them, hide them or help them leave.
